Student answer (Band 6.5)

AT THE PRESENT TIME, SOME COUNTRIES HAVE A HIGHER NUMBER OF POPULATIONS OF YOUNG ADULTS THAN OLDER PEOPLE. THIS SITUATION CAN BRING SEVERAL BENEFITS TO A COUNTRY, ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF ECONOMIC GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. HOWEVER, IT CAN ALSO CREATE SOME CHALLENGES. IN MY OPINION, THE ADVANTAGES OF HAVING A YOUNG POPULATION ARE GREATER THAN THE DISADVANTAGES.

ON THE ONE HAND, A MAJOR ADVANTAGE IS THAT YOUNG PEOPLE CAN CONTRIBUTE GREATLY TO THE ECONOMY. MOST YOUNG ADULTS ARE ABLE TO WORK, EARN MONEY AND PAY TAXES. THEY CAN ALSO FILL DIFFERENT JOBS IN INDUSTRIES SUCH AS TECHNOLOGY, CONSTRUCTION, EDUCATION AND HEALTHCARE. FOR EXAMPLE, COUNTRIES WITH A LARGE WORKING-AGE POPULATION CAN HAVE FASTER ECONOMIC GROWTH BECAUSE THERE ARE MORE PEOPLE AVAILABLE TO WORK AND PRODUCE GOODS AND SERVICES. IN ADDITION, YOUNG PEOPLE ARE USUALLY MORE WILLING TO LEARN NEW SKILLS AND USE MODERN TECHNOLOGY.

ON THE OTHER HAND, A LARGE YOUNG POPULATION CAN ALSO CREATE SOME PROBLEMS. GOVERNMENTS NEED TO PROVIDE ENOUGH JOBS, SCHOOLS, UNIVERSITIES AND TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THESE PEOPLE. IF THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES, UNEMPLOYMENT MAY INCREASE, WHICH CAN LEAD TO FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES AND SOCIAL PROBLEMS. FURTHERMORE, A GROWING POPULATION MAY PUT PRESSURE ON PUBLIC SERVICES AND HOUSING. FOR INSTANCE, IF A CITY DOES NOT CREATE ENOUGH JOBS FOR ITS YOUNG POPULATION, MANY YOUNG PEOPLE MAY STRUGGLE TO FIND STABLE EMPLOYMENT.

IN CONCLUSION, LARGE NUMBER OF YOUTH CAN BE DIFFICULT TO HANDLE AS GOVERMENT NEEDS TO CREATE MORE EMPLOYMENT. HOWEVER, A GREATER NUMBER OF WORKING PEOPLE CAN BE MORE BENIFICAL TO THE COUNTRY BY CONTRIBUTING IN VARIOUS FIELD OF WORK EVENTUALY IMPROVEING THE ECONOMIC.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and logically developed, such as the economic contribution of young adults and the potential strain on public services. However, the development is somewhat brief; for instance, the point about 'social problems' is mentioned but not fully explored. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific, nuanced examples or deeper analysis of the consequences mentioned. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a consistent stance throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand,' 'In addition,' and 'Furthermore' are used effectively to link sentences and paragraphs. However, the transition in the conclusion is slightly abrupt, and the final sentence contains minor grammatical errors that slightly disrupt the flow. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure supports the argument well.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'working-age population,' 'employment opportunities,' and 'economic growth' correctly. There are some minor errors in word formation and spelling, such as 'BENIFICAL' (beneficial) and 'EVENTUALY IMPROVEING' (eventually improving). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision of less common lexical items that would characterize a higher band. Focusing on more sophisticated collocations and ensuring accurate spelling will help improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are clear and accurate, there are recurring errors, particularly in article usage and pluralization, such as 'LARGE NUMBER OF YOUTH' (a large number of young people) and 'IMPROVEING THE ECONOMIC' (improving the economy). These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while paying closer attention to subject-verb agreement and article consistency.
