Student answer (Band 7.0)

At the current time, the population of particular countries involves a relatively large number of young adults compared with older people. I personally believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages because young people are the future of society and they generally have more energy and motivation towards work. They can also contribute to the development of businesses and the economy in the long term.

The main reason why having a larger number of young people is beneficial is that they are energetic and motivated to work. For example, young adults may be more willing to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities. As a result, they can help companies develop and improve significantly. They can also bring fresh ideas to the workplace, which can contribute to the growth of businesses and the economy. Furthermore, young adults can support older generations by contributing taxes and working in important sectors such as healthcare, education and technology. This can help maintain a strong and productive society.

However, having a large young population can also create certain challenges. One major disadvantage is the potential lack of employment opportunities. If there are more young adults looking for work than available jobs, unemployment may increase. This could put pressure on governments to create more jobs and provide additional training and education. Nevertheless, I believe this disadvantage can be managed through effective government policies and investment in employment.

In conclusion, although a large young population can create pressure on employment opportunities, I believe that its advantages outweigh its disadvantages. Young adults can make a significant contribution to society and the economy through their energy, skills and willingness to work.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, clearly stating your position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Your ideas are relevant and logically developed, particularly regarding the economic and social contributions of young adults. However, the response could be improved by providing more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. For instance, while you mention 'healthcare' and 'technology', briefly explaining how a young workforce specifically impacts these sectors would strengthen your argument. The conclusion effectively summarizes your stance, ensuring the position remains clear throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is well-organized with a clear structure consisting of an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central topic, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use cohesive devices such as 'For example', 'As a result', 'Furthermore', and 'However' to link your points effectively. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions are quite standard. To reach a higher band, you could experiment with more sophisticated cohesive devices or vary the way you introduce your supporting points to make the writing feel more natural and less mechanical.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. You use appropriate terms such as 'potential lack of employment opportunities', 'productive society', and 'effective government policies'. However, the vocabulary is somewhat functional and lacks the 'less common' or 'idiomatic' items required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations or academic synonyms. For example, instead of 'large number', you could use 'a significant demographic proportion' or 'a burgeoning youth population'. Your spelling is accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your grammar is generally accurate. Most of your sentences are error-free, which makes the text easy to follow. You successfully use conditional structures ('If there are more young adults...') and relative clauses. To achieve a higher score, you should aim for a greater variety of complex structures, such as passive voice constructions or inverted sentences, to demonstrate more flexibility. There are no significant errors that impede communication, but increasing the complexity of your sentence variety will help elevate your score.
