Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a significant number of countries have a substantial amount of young adults, compared to the number of elders. I strongly believe the benefits of this situation outweigh the drawbacks. The younger generation is a work-force and contribute in country growth.

One of the main reasons are the youngsters energy and strength that helps in many fields where manual labour is highly demanding such as agriculture filed or the construction works. The more young people a country have, the more country will grow. For example, India has a enormous young generation who works in agricultural farms or build houses and it contributes a lot in the country economy. consequently, the nation economy boost.

Moreover, having less elder population means paying less pensions and alleviate the burden from healthcare system. A pertinent example of this is Italy where the elders take huge pensions and the hospitals are always full of elders. Their economy suffer because they could not afford to pay pensions because the young generation is less than older population.

Despite the advantages in favour of more young generation, the elder people also important to the society, not in terms of money but providing education and manners to the younger peoples.

In conclusion, the youngsters not only a work force for a country but also helps to the nation growth. having a large number of youth helps to build as nation. The elders are also important if they are in small numbers compare to the young generation, otherwise country pay a lot of money on them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the advantages and disadvantages of a young population. You clearly state your position that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide examples like India and Italy, the analysis remains superficial. For instance, the argument regarding healthcare in Italy is a bit simplistic and could be better supported with more nuanced economic reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended rather than just stated. The conclusion is a bit repetitive and does not fully synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'Despite', which help the flow. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between sentences is slightly disjointed. For example, the transition from the benefits of young labor to the healthcare argument could be smoother. Additionally, referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the final paragraph where the pronoun usage is slightly confusing. Improving the variety and sophistication of your linking words would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'work-force', 'alleviate', and 'pertinent'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'agriculture filed' instead of 'agricultural sector' and 'nation economy boost' instead of 'national economy receives a boost'. Some phrasing is also repetitive, particularly the use of 'young generation' and 'elders'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and varying your vocabulary to avoid repetition. While the errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'One of the main reasons are', 'the youngsters not only a work force... but also helps') and pluralization (e.g., 'younger peoples', 'compare to the young generation'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors that affect the clarity of some sentences. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules such as plural forms and verb agreement. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help raise your score.
