Student answer (Band 5.5)

Currently, the population of young individuals in some countries is relatively higher than the number of elders. I believe that the positive effects of this circumstance is comparably higher than the negative effects.

On the one hand, the young generation has refused to accept the bad situation, they try to improve it by finding better job opportunities and starting their own business. For instance, the young entrepreneurs start their own business at low-paid position and after sometime they work hard to learn new skills, which benefits company's economic growth. Moreover, the youngsters are more prone to learning and they grasp complex things more efficiently than the older people. They can contribute in accelerating country progress. Today's generation, which is known as Gen Z are very intelligent and dedicated to their work. For example, several young individuals have become influencers and run online platforms to support their family and fulfill their own needs. Additionally, whenever some violent cases are reported, such as minor rapes, crimes and women rights problems, they work as a community to raise awareness against them. They insist the government to take action against it as soon as possible. As compared to the older people, they can't serve the country for the longer period because of their physical health.

On the other hand, as population is increasing day by day, so the young individuals require more job opportunities, better health facilities and top-tier education. For instance, due to increasing population the competition rises among them for availing better opportunities.

In conclusion, whether competition rises among the young individuals due to the population, I believe that the country gets benefit from them in many ways. They help to increase progress of country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of having a large young adult population, concluding with a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Ideas are introduced, such as economic growth through young entrepreneurs and the ability of the youth to learn quickly, and supported with examples like influencers and community awareness campaigns. However, some arguments lack full development or slip into over-generalisation, such as the brief and underdeveloped mention of disadvantages regarding job competition and health facilities. While the position is clear throughout, the support for the counter-argument is rather thin, leading to a Band 6.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear transitional markers like 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different facets of the argument. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the phrase 'whenever some violent cases are reported... they work as a community' creates slightly unclear referencing regarding who 'they' refers to, and some sentences feel loosely connected. Overall progression is present, but logical links between ideas occasionally falter, warranting a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'entrepreneurs', 'influencers', and 'accelerating country progress'. However, there are notable word-choice and collocation inaccuracies, such as 'bad situation' instead of 'adverse conditions' or 'difficult circumstances', 'at low-paid position', and 'avail better opportunities'. Spelling is generally acceptable, and while these lexical errors do not impede overall communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in tense consistency, preposition usage, and article omission, such as 'the young generation has refused... they try', 'contribute in accelerating', 'country's economic growth' missing articles in places, and 'insist the government to take action' instead of 'urge the government'. Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and communication is rarely impeded, which aligns with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
