Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent time with increase of population the youth demographic have risen significantly in comparison to past. This has created a lot of opporunities for the countries, but like a dual-edge sword it has given rise to lots of challanges.

Lets discuss the advantages of this kind of demographic. First of all, countries with large number of young adults have advantage in term of labour along with innovation. For instant, India provides a large number of workforce to countries like the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and generally middle east. The young bulge drives innovation and creates markets. Furthermore, population creates advantage over the countries with lower demographic of adults, these countries have to import labour and spend a big sum on old age benefit slowing down the economy. A youthful population creates and sustained consumer base that attracts investments.

On other hand, the large group of young population creates challanges for countries, specially during economic downfalls. This creates unemployement, resource scarcity along with other issues. In recent time specifically in countries like Pakistan a huge part of generation is unemployed leading towards high crime rates. This also creates challanges for state to manage its resources, to provide youth with skills, and employment. If state is ineffective in managment it slows the economic pogress. In addition to that, education defict is created where thousands are left without formal education.

To sum it up, the effective management of youth bulge creates real advantages or disadvantages for the countries. If the management is not effective it leads to challanges that can hinder the growth of population and country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of a population with a large number of young adults, and presents a clear overall position. The student develops ideas around workforce availability, economic growth, and innovation as advantages, while addressing unemployment, resource scarcity, and crime as disadvantages. For instance, the mention of India supplying a large workforce to the Middle East provides a relevant real-world example. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed and could benefit from further explanation or depth to reach a higher band. Overall, the requirements of Task 2 are covered adequately, earning a band score of 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay presents a clear overall arrangement with an introduction, distinct body paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is utilised appropriately to separate main themes. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, transitional phrases like 'Lets discuss' and 'On other hand' show minor inaccuracies in phrasing and cohesive control. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression within paragraphs occasionally feels abrupt due to limited linking devices. These features align with the descriptors for Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'demographic', 'innovation', and 'unemployment'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'opporunities', 'challanges', 'For instant' (instead of for instance), 'unemployement', and 'pogress'. Additionally, phrasing like 'dual-edge sword' contains lexical inaccuracies. While these errors do not impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score to a Band 5.5, as they reflect inconsistency in spelling and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some capability to construct compound thoughts, such as in 'Countries with large number of young adults have advantage in term of labour along with innovation.' However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly missing articles ('with large number', 'in term of', 'to state', 'If state is ineffective'), pluralisation issues, and prepositions. While these errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they occur regularly enough to prevent the response from achieving a Band 6.0. Therefore, a band score of 5.5 is awarded.
