Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of having a young population, mentioning economic growth, workforce size, and potential social or political instability. However, the development of ideas is limited and at times unclear due to expression issues. For instance, the discussion on Japan and Singapore briefly touches upon demographic decline, while the examples of China and South Asian nations attempt to illustrate economic impacts. The position is generally clear, but the arguments lack depth and clear extension, resulting in an under-developed response that aligns closely with a Band 5 performance descriptor.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by confusing transitions and weak cohesion. Phrases like 'some this that huge youth make trouble' and 'On the other hand, where huge youth make their workforce' create awkward breaks in flow. Referencing is often unclear, making it difficult to follow the connection between sentences. While basic paragraphing is present, the overall organisation lacks clear overall progression and cohesive devices are frequently inaccurate or inadequate, which places this text securely in the Band 5 category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include phrases like 'big figure of youngsters', 'live out relationship making great sound', and 'pen and copy'. The range of vocabulary is limited and minimally adequate for discussing the topic, but frequent word-choice and collocation errors restrict the score. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'demographic' or 'workforce', but they are often misused or surrounded by inaccurate phrasing, preventing the score from reaching a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0

Grammatical control is weak throughout the response. There is a very limited range of structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty, such as in the opening sentence: 'In today’s youth of every country determine the GDP of each nation that’s the reason developing states have big figure of youngsters either than elders'. Frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence boundaries cause considerable difficulty for the reader. Because error-free sentences are rare and the grammatical mistakes frequently impede communication, a Band 4.0 is the most accurate reflection of this performance.
