Student answer (Band 6.5)
Much of the population of numerous countries consists of youngsters compared to the senior citizens currently. This scenario is more beneficial than the inverse situation for obvious reasons.
To begin with, the youth is a primary consumer of most of the products and the services, thus contributing directly to the growth of the GDP of a nation and in its development compared to the elderly masses. People between the age of 21 and 40 are known as the working class of the country and are the main driving force of the economy for it.
Moving further youngsters are very much likely to be more comfortable in adapting with the changes which are brought by the constantly evolving technology of 21st century. Whereas the older generation would find it difficult to catch up with these updates. For instance, the government launching a new fast paced bullet train system would be easier to adapt to by the office going class and students than older people.
There is a counter argument to this notion as well, which suggests the multiple benefits of having elderly people as the majority of the population of a country. One such example would be the reduction in crime rate and antisocial activity which will help create and maintain peace and order in various social classes. Adding more to it, the virtues the grandparents and elders pass on to the younger generations, proves to be a valuable contribution in the upbringing of a child and cultivating the mindset which leads to the holistic sense of life rather than merely be driven by materialistic desires.
But even considering this, there are still more positive factors which only youth can add to a social context. For instance, Society with the higher population as youth is more productive and feels livelier and happening.
Measuring all the benefits from the above, I am certain that having more youngsters as a population for a county is always lucrative compared to their older counterpart as they directly contribute to the growth of the economy and are highly adaptable to new technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of a population with a large number of young adults, eventually taking a clear position that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The ideas are relevant and generally well-developed. For instance, the writer effectively argues that young adults are the primary workforce and consumers, driving GDP growth, and highlights their greater adaptability to modern technology like a bullet train system. The counter-argument regarding crime rates and traditional values passed down by elders is also acknowledged and discussed. However, some arguments, such as the concluding point that society feels livelier, tend to be slightly over-generalized and under-developed. Despite this, the main task requirements are met well, aligning comfortably with the Band 7 criteria for task response.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. It opens with an introductory stance, moves through body paragraphs supporting the advantages, addresses the counter-argument thoughtfully, and concludes by reaffirming the initial position. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices are employed to link concepts, such as 'To begin with', 'Moving further', and 'Adding more to it', though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or formulaic. Referencing and substitution are generally clear, enabling the reader to follow the argument smoothly from start to finish, which satisfies the requirements for a Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary for the task, allowing for some flexibility and precision. Phrases such as 'driving force of the economy', 'constantly evolving technology', and 'materialistic desires' show an ability to use less common items with some awareness of style and collocation. However, there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'consists of youngsters compared to the senior citizens currently' and 'Society with the higher population as youth is more productive and feels livelier and happening.' While these minor errors exist, they do not impede communication, placing the response solidly in the Band 6.5 to 7 range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, including relative clauses and conditional structures. There are frequent error-free sentences, such as 'People between the age of 21 and 40 are known as the working class of the country and are the main driving force of the economy for it.' However, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings persist, such as 'Moving further youngsters are very much likely', 'adapting with the changes', and missing articles like 'Society with the higher population'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but commas are occasionally misused or omitted around introductory phrases. The control of grammar is good enough to ensure that meaning is rarely obscured, aligning with Band 6.
