Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of having a young population, taking a clear position that the economic benefits outweigh the employment challenges. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the discussion on employment issues focuses heavily on difficulties in finding jobs and houses without deep extension or varied supporting examples. While all parts of the task are addressed, the arguments remain somewhat superficial, placing this response firmly in Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is organised into four paragraphs with a clear introduction and conclusion. Cohesive devices are used to signal progression, such as 'Firstly' and 'Secondly'. However, paragraphing and referencing are occasionally mechanical or faulty, and there is a lack of smooth transitions between sentences. For example, the sentence 'On the other hand, youth found difficulty in searching for houses' abruptly shifts topics within the same paragraph without adequate logical connection. Overall organisation shows some progression, but the execution of cohesion is repetitive and occasionally awkward, justifying a Band 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with several spelling and word-formation errors such as 'popution', 'aplly', 'younger's', and 'overweigh'. The range of vocabulary is minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey simple ideas about the economy and employment. However, there is little evidence of less common lexical items, and word choice errors like 'bring new ideas' and 'built a software' cause some distraction for the reader, placing this response at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but these attempts are frequently marred by basic grammatical errors. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency, such as 'if youth outweigh... it lead an employment challenges' and 'younger generation was greater'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, notably with comma splices and lowercase personal pronouns like 'i believed'. These frequent errors frequently impede smooth reading and demonstrate limited control over complex structures, corresponding to a Band 5.0.
