Student answer (Band 6.5)

At a present time, some countries have significantly higher proportion of young adults than the older people. Although, this situation can creates many challenges. I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages because young people contribute to economic growth and national development of the country.

There are several advantage of having a higher proportion of young people. Firstly, young adults are more energetic and capable of working for long hour which can enhance the productivity in different industries. Secondly, Young minds bring innovative ideas, creativity and technical skills to the workplace. Young adults can help in business and compete in the international market. For example, countries which has large number of young professionals can take benefit from the growing industries such as technology, engineering, and construction. Furthermore, Young people supports economy which help governments of the countries to invest in health, education and its infrastructure. However, This has some disadvanatages as well. The most significant problem is that young people requires more employement opporunities. If a government fails to provide the jobs, it will lead to increase in the poverty and unemployment. In additional, Young people need access to the quality education, health facilities and affordable house to stay in the country. If a government do not invest in these areas, social problems and frustration from young generation will increase. In developing countries, educated young individuals struggle to find a suitable for them, which can lead them to seek abroad employment.

In Conclusion, if a government invest in education, vocational training and job opporunities, young people can become more valuable resource for economic growth, financial development and future.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you believe the advantages outweigh the disadvantages, and the conclusion returns to the importance of investment in young people. You address both sides with relevant points, including productivity, innovation, unemployment and pressure on public services. The examples of technology, engineering and construction help illustrate the economic benefits. This meets the task well, although some claims remain broad: for instance, the link between a young population and governments’ ability to fund health and education is asserted rather than explained. The disadvantages are also listed more than developed. To strengthen the response further, explain one or two points in greater depth and make the comparison between the benefits and costs more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a main discussion of benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore” and “However” make the progression easy to follow, and the central position remains consistent. This is a coherent overall arrangement, with some effective progression. However, the main body places several benefits and disadvantages in one long paragraph, so the shift from one side to the other is less clear than it could be. Some linking is also mechanical, and “In additional” does not form a natural transition. Use separate paragraphs for the advantages and disadvantages, and vary transitions while making references between ideas more precise.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “productivity,” “innovative ideas,” “international market,” “unemployment” and “vocational training.” These choices communicate the main points and show attempts to use language suited to an academic discussion. Some less natural combinations and inaccurate word forms limit precision, however: “long hour,” “affordable house to stay,” and “a suitable for them” are unclear or incomplete expressions. There are also spelling errors such as “disadvanatages,” “employement” and “opporunities.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but careful proofreading and more natural collocations would improve control. Aim to use precise phrases such as “long hours,” “affordable housing” and “suitable employment.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional sentences such as “If a government fails to provide the jobs, it will lead…” and a relative clause in “which can lead them to seek abroad employment.” The meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles and verb forms occur across the response. Examples include “some countries have significantly higher proportion,” “this situation can creates,” “countries which has,” and “young people supports.” The conditional “if a government invest” also needs a matching verb form. These recurring errors show that complex structures are not yet consistently controlled. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, then proofread each sentence for a complete and correctly formed verb phrase.
