The chart below shows how frequently people in the USA ate in fast food restaurants between 2003 and 2013.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

 

Student answer (Band 7.0)

The bar chart compares the proportion of people who frequently eat at fast food restaurants in the USA from 2003 to 2013.

Overall, eating at fast food restaurants once a week and once or twice a month was most popular among people in the USA in all three years. Additionally, a smaller proportion of people preferred to eat at fast food restaurants every day.

In 2003, the frequency of eating at fast food restaurants was the highest for once a week at around 31%, and followed by once or twice a month at approximately 30%. Meanwhile, around 17% of people went to fast food restaurants several times a week and 13% of a few times a year. However, around 5% of people never eaten at fast food restaurants while 4% of people went every day.

In 2006, once a week and once or twice a month stood at 35% and 25%, respectively. This was followed by several times a week at 20% and a few times a year at 15%. Moreover, around 3% of people went every day and 4% of people never went to a fast-food restaurants.

Lastly, a similar pattern followed in 2013, in which peaked restaurants visit once or twice a month at 33%, which was the highest recorded among others. Whereas around 3% of people went every day, which was the lowest recorded figures among all.
