Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the low frequency of daily consumption and the fluctuations in weekly consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. For example, the statement 'The proportion of people who never ate fast food at restaurant is 5% is 2003' contains a factual error regarding the data, and the mention of '2016' is an error as the chart only goes up to 2013. The overview is missing; a summary of the overall trends (e.g., the shift in popularity between weekly and monthly consumption) would have strengthened the response significantly. The data reporting is occasionally imprecise, which limits the clarity of the comparison.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is presented as a single paragraph, which makes it difficult to follow. A clear structure with an introduction, an overview, and separate body paragraphs for different categories would improve the logical flow. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'but' and 'which is', the progression of ideas is mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing figures across different years, making the reader work harder to understand the relationships between the data points. Paragraphing is essential for a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'a large number of people' and 'remains approximately unchanged' are functional but repetitive. There are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'througout several years' and the confusing phrasing 'which was once lower in 2003 and 2016'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend', rather than relying on simple descriptive phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and some complex structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles ('in United States of America'), incorrect verb tenses ('is 2003 and decrease'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('The number people who eat'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic tense consistency would be beneficial.
