Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the chart and makes relevant comparisons between the years. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the shift in the most frequent category between 2003 and 2013. However, the report is slightly hindered by inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, stating '31 percentage' is grammatically awkward, and some figures are described in a way that lacks precision. To reach a higher band, ensure that data points are clearly linked to the specific categories and years without ambiguity. The overview is present but could be more clearly integrated to highlight the most significant trends across the decade.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with each year receiving its own section. This makes the information easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'Other 17%' or 'Other visit' are used to transition between data points, which feels a bit disjointed. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Conversely.' Additionally, ensure that referencing is clear so the reader always knows which category is being discussed.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'proportion,' 'percentage,' and 'fell.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'the highest people ate fast food' (should be 'the largest proportion of people') and 'never visited hotels' (the chart refers to restaurants, not hotels). These errors occasionally distract the reader. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure that your vocabulary is appropriate for an academic report. Avoid informal phrasing and ensure your terminology matches the context of the task.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the chart illustrate'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence construction ('the highest people ate fast food are 31 percentage'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles. Proofreading for these common errors will significantly enhance the clarity and professional tone of your writing.
