Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to adequately report the main features of the data. While it identifies the topic, it lacks a clear overview and fails to provide specific data points or trends from the chart. The description of the trends is vague, using terms like 'ratio increases' or 'decreases' without referencing the actual percentages or years provided in the graph. To improve, you must select key data points (e.g., the highest and lowest categories) and describe the trends with precision, ensuring the reader can understand the chart's content without seeing it.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into short, disjointed paragraphs that lack logical progression. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as 'from this information the most surprising thing is', which does not effectively link ideas. The referencing is unclear, and the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, use linking words like 'furthermore', 'in contrast', or 'consequently' to connect sentences and ensure each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping similar trends together.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'given information' and 'people in the USA' are used repeatedly. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'close combination' and 'in both of these terms comparison', which make the meaning unclear. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data accurately. You should aim to use more precise reporting verbs and nouns related to data analysis, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people... have different percentages'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. The punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of commas and capitalization. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, with few attempts at complex forms. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and practice using complex sentences with subordinate clauses.
