Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to adequately address the task requirements. Instead of providing a clear summary of the data trends shown in the chart, the writing relies on vague descriptions like 'go up and down' and 'many more'. It fails to identify key features or make meaningful comparisons between the categories (e.g., 'every day', 'once a week', 'never'). Furthermore, the inclusion of irrelevant personal commentary about people enjoying parties and free time is not based on the provided data. To improve, you must focus strictly on the information presented in the chart, using specific figures to support your observations rather than generalising.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response lacks a logical structure. It is written as a single paragraph without a clear introduction, body, or conclusion. The progression of ideas is disjointed, and the use of cohesive devices is minimal and often inaccurate (e.g., 'But in 2006', 'According to picture table'). The lack of paragraphing makes the text difficult to follow. To improve, you should organise your response into clear paragraphs: an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and specific details. Use linking words like 'however', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' to connect your ideas more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic words like 'sale', 'eat', and 'food' without variation. There are also significant spelling errors, such as 'resturants', 'aproximilately', and 'attract' (used incorrectly as a verb instead of 'attracted'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey precise information about the data. To improve, try to learn synonyms for common words and focus on using topic-specific vocabulary related to charts and trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'increased significantly', or 'a downward trend'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many famous fast food resturants exists'), missing articles (e.g., 'in 2003 year'), and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'the sale growth'). Sentence structures are simple and often fragmented. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including the correct use of articles, pluralisation, and verb tenses. Practice writing complete sentences with a subject, verb, and object, and try to incorporate a wider variety of sentence structures to demonstrate better control.
