Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by reporting on the data provided in the chart. However, the presentation of the data is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear, analytical focus. While you have included most of the figures, the way they are grouped makes it difficult for the reader to identify the key trends or significant changes over the decade. To improve, focus on grouping the data logically (e.g., categories that increased vs. decreased) rather than listing every percentage point. The overview provided is brief and could be more descriptive regarding the overall shifts in consumer behavior.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the flow between sentences is often disjointed due to the repetitive structure of the sentences (e.g., 'at 17% in 2003, at 20% in 2006'). The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally misused, such as 'To commence with' or 'on the other side', which do not fit the context of a data report. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You rely heavily on phrases like 'eating the fast food' and 'at [percentage]'. There is a lack of variety in reporting verbs and nouns. To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'witnessed a decline', or 'peaked'. Additionally, there are some minor spelling errors, such as 'resturants' and 'consistentaly', which should be addressed through careful proofreading.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and articles (e.g., 'in the every day', 'in the once a week', 'in the a few times a year'). These errors occasionally make the text feel awkward, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct usage of articles when describing frequency. Attempting to use more complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses or participial phrases, would also help demonstrate a wider grammatical range.
