Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the chart, such as the trends in fast food consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial and lacks precision. For example, the description of the data is occasionally vague, such as 'somewhere 33%' or 'somewhat 34%'. While you have selected key data points, the comparison between categories could be more effectively developed to highlight the overall trends. To improve, ensure you provide a clear overview of the most significant changes across the period rather than just listing individual years, and avoid using informal terms like 'hotels' to describe fast food restaurants.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the progression of your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the connection between the categories and the percentages is slightly muddled. Improving the use of linking phrases and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus will help to achieve a more natural and sophisticated flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is somewhat repetitive and contains some inaccurate word choices. For instance, referring to fast food restaurants as 'hotels' is incorrect and impacts the clarity of your report. You also use basic descriptors like 'major spike' and 'very low', which could be replaced with more precise academic language. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied vocabulary related to data trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant proportion', and ensure that your terminology accurately reflects the subject matter of the prompt.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'it was measure that', 'people that the number of times', and 'people eats the junk food'. Subject-verb agreement and tense consistency are areas that require attention. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors prevent the writing from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly verb forms and sentence construction, will significantly improve the quality of your writing.
