Student answer (Band 6.0)

The chart illustrates about the people who usually eats fast food in restaurant of three years 2003, 2006 and 2013. These are classified in few categories like daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

Let's begin with the people who regularly dine-in are less than 5% in all three years but in 2003 the ratio is bit higher than other two years. While the ratio of the people who visit restaurant more frequently in a week is 20% in 2006 but in other two years it is 17% in 2003 and 15% in 2013. There is a gradual increase in the community who prefer to ate once a week and once or twice a month in the hotel and crosses 30% in 2003 and reaches to 33 percent in 2006 but in once a month we see a decline in number reduced to 25% whereas in 2013 we see once a week increases to 27% and it gradually increases more to 33% when we see once a month.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by identifying the main features of the chart. However, the analysis is somewhat fragmented and lacks a clear overview of the overall trends. While you mention specific percentages, the comparison between categories is occasionally confusing, particularly in the second paragraph where the description of trends becomes difficult to follow. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary statement after the introduction that highlights the most significant trends (e.g., the general decline or stability in certain frequencies) and ensure that comparisons are explicitly linked to the years provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into two paragraphs, but the logical progression within the second paragraph is weak. The use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate, such as the transition 'While the ratio of the people...'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track which year or category is being discussed. To improve, use more varied linking words and ensure that each sentence builds logically upon the previous one, rather than simply listing data points.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on basic terms like 'people', 'ratio', and 'number'. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'eats fast food in restaurant' (should be 'eat fast food in restaurants') and 'in the hotel' (which is not appropriate for fast food restaurants). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people who usually eats') and tense inconsistencies ('prefer to ate'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, which occasionally hinders the flow of the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent verb tenses when describing past data. Proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect verb forms will significantly improve your score.
