Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the trends for different frequencies of fast food consumption. However, the analysis is somewhat superficial. The description of the data is occasionally inaccurate or confusing, such as stating that the percentage of people who ate fast food daily and those who never ate it were 'almost same' at 4%, 2%, and 2%, which does not clearly reflect the data points. Furthermore, the overview is weak; it lacks a clear summary of the most significant trends, such as the fact that 'once or twice a month' was consistently the most popular category. The response would benefit from a more precise selection of data to highlight key comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused. For example, 'Firstly' is used, but the subsequent paragraphing does not follow a logical 'Secondly' structure. The transition between sentences is sometimes abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the phrase 'it fulled with them' which is grammatically confusing and disrupts the flow of information. While there is an overall attempt at a logical progression, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive nature of some transitions limit the coherence of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and sophistication. There are several instances of awkward word choices, such as 'junk food restaurant of Usa', 'masses experienced outside food', and 'became renown'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. The student relies on basic descriptive language and struggles with accurate collocations related to data reporting (e.g., 'steady stabled'). To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'accounted for'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'percentage of people chosen'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'it fulled with them'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentences lacking proper spacing after periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors is noticeable and occasionally causes the reader to pause. A greater focus on subject-verb agreement and sentence construction would significantly improve the accuracy of the writing.
