Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have attempted to describe the data, the report is underdeveloped and lacks a clear overview of the main trends. You have listed individual data points without synthesizing the information or highlighting the most significant features, such as the fact that the 'once a week' and 'once a month' categories were the most popular. To improve, ensure you provide a clear summary of the overall trends and meet the length requirement to allow for full development of the data.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into two paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link sentences, making the text feel like a list of isolated observations rather than a cohesive report. For example, the transition between the 'everyday' category and the 'several days' category is abrupt. To improve, use linking words such as 'in contrast,' 'furthermore,' or 'meanwhile' to connect your ideas and create a smoother flow between the different data points presented in the chart.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You frequently use the phrase 'percentage of' and 'people who ate,' which makes the writing monotonous. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'gain percentage' and 'below to five,' which are not natural collocations. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms for 'percentage' (e.g., 'proportion,' 'figure') and 'ate' (e.g., 'consumed,' 'frequented'), and ensure that your phrasing is more precise when describing statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The chart below illustrate') and incorrect preposition usage ('mid the 2003 to 2013'). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after periods. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensure subjects and verbs agree, and practice using more complex structures like relative clauses or subordinating conjunctions to add variety to your writing.
