Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to accurately report the data presented in the chart. Instead of summarizing the trends in fast food consumption, the essay includes irrelevant personal opinions about the side effects of fast food and speculation about why students and workers choose it. The description of the data is vague and confusing, using phrases like 'several people' without referencing the actual percentages or categories provided in the graph. The main features are not identified, and there is no meaningful comparison of the data between 2003 and 2013. The response does not fulfill the requirements of an Academic Task 1 report.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal logic is weak. The progression of ideas is disjointed, and the connection between sentences is often unclear. While there are some attempts at cohesive devices like 'In 2003' and 'overall', they are used mechanically and do not effectively link the information. The referencing is frequently confusing, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended meaning. The final paragraph introduces irrelevant information that does not relate to the data, further disrupting the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. There is a reliance on basic, repetitive words, and the student struggles with word choice and collocation. For example, 'consume fast food several in a week' and 'the food making is a difficult and boring work' are unnatural and imprecise. The student also uses incorrect terminology, such as 'residence' instead of 'home' or 'cooking at home'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information clearly, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort the meaning. There are significant issues with verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Examples include 'The given chart show the information', 'few people were consume fast food', and 'when people become know'. The sentence structures are predominantly simple and often fragmented. Complex sentences are attempted but are consistently faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods throughout the text.
