Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The description of the data is confusing, particularly the reference to the 'c-axis' and the vague interpretation of the categories. While the response identifies some trends, it lacks a clear comparison between the years 2003, 2006, and 2013. The information provided is often imprecise (e.g., 'people about 30%'), and the summary does not effectively highlight the main features or significant changes in the data. To improve, you must focus on accurately reporting the specific percentages and trends shown in the chart rather than using vague descriptions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'Adding to it', 'Turning toward'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of data across the different years. To improve, ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus and use a wider variety of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. There are several instances of inaccurate word choice, such as 'stipulate' (which is not appropriate for describing a chart) and 'masses' (which is too informal for an academic report). The phrase 'take a bite of junk food' is also too informal. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with precision. You should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'a significant proportion'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people... eat several time'), missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage. The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty or awkward. For example, 'They don’t eat everyday that much' is grammatically incorrect and informal. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and article usage.
