Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response provides a clear overview of the main trends and successfully selects key data points to support the summary. You have covered all categories of the chart and made relevant comparisons between the years. However, the analysis is slightly hampered by some inaccuracies in data reporting; for instance, stating that 31% grew to 33% and then declined to 28% is accurate, but the phrasing is occasionally repetitive. To reach a higher band, ensure that the overview highlights the most significant shifts more concisely and avoid listing every single data point, which can make the report feel like a catalogue rather than a summary.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with a clear introduction, overview, and body paragraphs. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'Moving towards' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, and the use of 'therefore' is occasionally misused (e.g., 'therefore it declined to 28%'). Improving the flow between sentences by using more varied referencing and avoiding repetitive sentence structures would enhance the overall coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'calibrated', 'ratio', and 'percentage'. However, there are several instances of non-standard word choices or awkward phrasing, such as 'percentum', 'stucked', and 'remained platue'. These errors occasionally draw attention to themselves. To improve, focus on using standard academic terminology and ensure that word forms (e.g., 'plateaued' instead of 'remained platue') are used correctly. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also help improve the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with verb tenses and forms, such as 'liked to ate' (should be 'liked to eat') and 'denied to ate'. Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'in the United State'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the data, they occur frequently enough to limit the score. Focusing on consistent tense usage and proofreading for basic grammatical slips will significantly improve your accuracy.
