Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear or accurate overview. The main features are poorly identified, and the data points are often inaccurate or confusingly presented. For example, the claim that the 'maximum people ate of food in the 2006 in once a week' is unclear, and the description of trends is disjointed. The response lacks a logical selection of data, often listing figures without meaningful comparison or synthesis. The overview is weak and does not effectively capture the significant trends over the decade. To improve, focus on identifying the most prominent changes and grouping data logically rather than listing every percentage point.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear structure. While there are paragraph breaks, the internal logic within paragraphs is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as the repetitive use of 'In 2003' and 'In 2006' without clear transitions. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the sentences do not link together logically. Referencing is also unclear; for instance, the phrase 'after three years it was declined' lacks a clear subject. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'meanwhile') and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There is a heavy reliance on basic, repetitive phrasing such as 'people ate food' and 'junk food'. Some word choices are inappropriate for an academic report, such as 'junk food' (which is not explicitly defined in the chart) and 'in detail'. There are also issues with collocation and word form, such as 'the maximum people' instead of 'the highest percentage of people'. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'a significant decline', or 'a marginal increase'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, including fragments and run-on sentences. Subject-verb agreement is inconsistent, for example, 'it were 35%' and 'people food ate'. Punctuation is also problematic, with commas used incorrectly or omitted, making the text difficult to parse. The range of structures is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with errors. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subjects and verbs agree, and using articles correctly. Proofreading for basic errors like 'after after' or 'in the last' is essential.
