Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response attempts to summarise the data, but it fails to clearly identify the main trends or provide an accurate overview. The description of the data is confusing and contains factual inaccuracies; for example, stating that the lowest frequency was in 2006 and 2013 is not supported by the chart. The selection of data points is haphazard, and the comparison between years is poorly executed. The response lacks a clear focus on the most significant features, such as the dominant categories (e.g., 'once a week'). Consequently, the information presented is difficult to follow and does not provide a clear summary of the provided chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.5
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'on the other side' and 'on the other hand,' which do not logically connect the preceding and following clauses. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the writer's train of thought. The overall structure is disjointed, and the lack of clear transitions between the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs significantly hinders the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.5
The vocabulary is very limited and often inaccurate. Phrases like 'ate outside food on the streets' and 'lowest food eaten' are unnatural and imprecise. There is significant repetition of basic words, and the student struggles to use appropriate terminology for describing data (e.g., '15% accurate' is an incorrect collocation). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information clearly, and the errors in word choice often impede the reader's understanding of the data trends.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often distort the meaning. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'who people were ate'), tense usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper syntax, such as 'there was some people live who ate food'. Punctuation is also problematic, with erratic use of commas and periods. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are almost always faulty, leading to a lack of clarity throughout the text.
