Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response provides a basic overview of the data, but it fails to effectively highlight the main trends or make meaningful comparisons. While you identified some figures, the analysis is superficial and lacks a clear, logical structure. The overview is weak and does not adequately summarise the key features of the chart. To improve, ensure you group data logically rather than listing individual years, and focus on the most significant changes or trends, such as the shift in popularity between 'once a week' and 'once or twice a month' over the decade. The lack of clear reporting on the overall trends limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is disjointed. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or incorrect, such as 'Firstly' followed by a list of data points rather than a logical argument. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of ideas. For example, the transition between the description of 'once a week' and 'once or twice a month' is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the flow and coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying heavily on basic terms like 'eating' and 'percentage'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'the given glance illustrates' (instead of 'the chart illustrates') and 'once or twice a mouth' (a spelling error for 'month'). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the data with precision. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more varied and accurate terminology related to data description, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'peaked', or 'declined'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede clarity. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('people's are eating'), incorrect verb tenses, and sentence structure ('it was 31% in the year 2003. And in the year 2006 it was increased to 33%'). The use of articles and prepositions is also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like pluralization and verb forms will help improve your accuracy.
