Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data but fails to clearly identify the main trends or provide an accurate overview. The description of the data is confusing; for instance, the claim that fast food consumption was '10 to 15 percent' in 2006 is not supported by the provided chart, and the interpretation of the categories is imprecise. The response lacks a clear, logical selection of key features, and the data points mentioned are often inaccurate or poorly contextualised. To improve, you must focus on accurately reporting the specific percentages shown in the graph and grouping the data logically to highlight the most significant changes over the decade.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'However', they are often used incorrectly or do not logically connect the sentences. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison of the data. The structure feels mechanical, and the lack of clear transitions between the overview and the specific data points hinders the overall flow. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often inappropriate for an academic report. Phrases like 'love junk food' and 'some human being' are too informal or unnatural in this context. There is a reliance on basic vocabulary, and some word choices, such as 'usage' instead of 'consumption' or 'frequency', are imprecise. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more academic collocations and precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', or 'significant increase'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you describe the trends with greater precision and sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The diagram show', 'mostly people consume'), incorrect article usage, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences with some errors in tense and word order. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring that subjects and verbs agree and that tenses are used consistently when describing past data. Proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect pluralisation will also help improve your accuracy.
