Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by summarizing the provided chart. However, the information is presented in a disorganized manner, making it difficult to follow the trends over the three years. While some data points are mentioned, the report lacks a clear overview and fails to make meaningful comparisons between the categories. The summary provided at the end is vague and does not accurately reflect the data presented in the chart. To improve, focus on grouping data logically (e.g., by category or by trend) and ensure that the main features are clearly highlighted in an introductory overview.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical structure. Paragraphing is present but does not effectively separate the information into coherent themes. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'moreover' and 'furthermore', but they are often used incorrectly or mechanically, which disrupts the flow of the text. The referencing is frequently unclear, and the progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to track the comparison of data across the years 2003, 2006, and 2013.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'cursory glance it is vivid that', 'decrees choice', and 'once a weak' (instead of 'week'). The student struggles to use precise terminology to describe statistical trends, often relying on basic phrases like 'increased data' or 'highly rose up'. To reach a higher band, the student should learn specific collocations for describing graphs, such as 'a significant increase', 'remained stable', or 'fluctuated'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and punctuation. For example, 'people eating fast food recorded high percentage in once a weak' is grammatically incorrect and lacks clarity. The use of articles and prepositions is inconsistent throughout the text. While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. A focus on basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors would be beneficial.
