Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response attempts to address the prompt by describing the chart, but it fails to clearly identify and report the main features. The information provided is often confusing and inaccurate; for example, the claim that 'the month of the 2013 people ate fastfood more' is unclear, and the data comparisons are frequently muddled. The response lacks a clear overview and fails to accurately represent the trends shown in the graph. Many of the descriptions of the data points are vague or incorrect, making it difficult for the reader to understand the actual information presented in the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The essay lacks a logical structure. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the ideas within the paragraphs do not flow logically. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and often incorrect way, such as 'First hand' and 'At the last', which do not function as appropriate transitions. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult to follow the progression of the argument. The lack of clear paragraphing and the disjointed nature of the sentences significantly hinder the overall coherence of the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words and struggles to use them in the correct context, such as 'fast food were eaten' or 'the fast food ate percent'. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation that make the text difficult to read. The student does not demonstrate the ability to use a range of vocabulary appropriate for an academic task, and the errors in word formation are persistent throughout the response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'This bar chart illustrate'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. Sentence structures are simple and often fragmented or poorly constructed. There is little evidence of complex sentence structures, and the errors are so frequent that they cause significant difficulty for the reader. Punctuation is also inconsistent, further detracting from the clarity of the writing.
