Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the data but struggles to present a clear overview. While it identifies some trends, the information is often confusing or inaccurate, such as the claim that 'most people ate once a month' when the data shows 'once a week' and 'once a month' are the dominant categories. The report lacks a clear structure, and the data points are not always accurately transcribed or compared. To improve, you should focus on identifying the most significant trends (e.g., the stability of the 'once a week' category versus the decline in 'several times a week') and present them in a more logical, analytical manner rather than just listing percentages.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response lacks clear paragraphing, which makes it difficult to follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are either missing or used incorrectly, such as the repetitive use of 'and' and 'also' to link clauses. The transition between sentences is often abrupt, and the lack of punctuation makes it hard to distinguish where one idea ends and another begins. To improve, you should use clear paragraph breaks to separate the introduction, the overview, and the specific data details. Additionally, try to use a wider range of linking words like 'however', 'in contrast', or 'meanwhile' to connect your sentences more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, with frequent spelling errors such as 'illustrats', 'resturants', 'fats', 'decrise', and 'comper'. There is also a lack of precision in describing trends; for example, using 'slide rise' instead of 'slight rise'. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to convey the information with the necessary precision required for an Academic Task 1 report. To improve, focus on learning specific collocations for describing data, such as 'a significant increase', 'a gradual decline', or 'remained stable'. Proofreading for basic spelling errors is also essential to ensure your writing is professional and clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
Grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors that occasionally impede communication. There are significant issues with verb tense consistency (e.g., 'people use to ate'), subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'two things was'), and sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or fragmented, lacking proper punctuation. The range of structures is limited to simple sentences, and attempts at more complex constructions are often grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the correct use of past tense verbs and subject-verb agreement. Practicing the use of commas and periods will also help clarify your meaning and improve the overall readability of your work.
