Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main features of the chart regarding how frequently people in the USA ate in fast food restaurants between 2003 and 2013, citing several key data points such as the 4% for every day and the changes in those eating several times a week. However, the data reporting is somewhat disjointed and contains minor inaccuracies in interpreting the exact percentages from the visual stimulus. For instance, stating that the data for those who opted for once a week or once/twice a month was 'between 25% to 33%' lacks precision and clarity. Additionally, the student includes speculative commentary ('American mostly avoided eating junk food', 'People in america are health concious', 'Thus, the data changes according to the prefernce and cravings of people') rather than purely summarising the visual data. Overall, it addresses the task and attempts to make comparisons, fulfilling the core requirements adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response is organised into multiple paragraphs, but the paragraphing is inconsistent and sometimes awkward, with several very short single-sentence paragraphs (e.g., 'Thus, the data changes according to the prefernce and cravings of people.'). Logical progression is occasionally disrupted by abrupt shifts between frequency categories without smooth transitions. While basic cohesive devices such as 'To initiate with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' are attempted, they are used somewhat mechanically. Referencing is occasionally unclear, as seen in phrases like 'for who pot for once a week', which muddies the cohesive flow and makes the relationships between ideas difficult to follow at times.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource is limited and adequate only for basic task completion. The student uses a mix of standard vocabulary related to the topic ('fast food restaurants', 'every day', 'population'), but attempts at less common or paraphrased vocabulary often result in awkward phrasing or errors, such as 'quick service restaurants', 'health concious', 'massses', 'fast -casual cafe', and 'fats food'. Furthermore, there are noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including 'Intrestingly', 'percent' instead of 'percentage', 'Furthurmore', and 'prefernce'. These lexical errors and repetitive vocabulary choices restrict the score to the lower-mid range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response displays a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but grammatical accuracy is weak throughout. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, articles, and prepositions, such as 'The given bar graph represent' (should be 'represents'), 'there was less percent of individuals' (should be 'there was a smaller percentage'), and 'the data for the massses who had food in fast -casual cafe was' (missing articles and plural agreement). Additionally, several sentences are structurally incomplete or tangled, such as 'for who ate it few times or rarely in a year'. Punctuation and spacing issues are also present. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader.
