Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by summarizing information from the bar chart regarding fast food consumption in the USA. However, there are significant inaccuracies in data interpretation. For instance, the overview states that the highest fast food consumption in 2013 was by people who ate once or twice a month, whereas the chart shows 'once a week' and 'several times a week' combined represented much larger percentages across categories, and 'once or twice a month' was actually 33% compared to higher figures in other years or categories. Furthermore, the body paragraphs contain confused statements, such as 'the ratio is droped in 2016' (the chart is for 2013) and misread percentages like 'the proportion reach to 5% and less than that in the people who never try fast food' (never was 3.5% to 4.5%, which is accurate, but other trends are muddled). The overview is somewhat unclear. Therefore, this performance corresponds to a band 5.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response has an introduction and body paragraphs, showing an attempt at organisation. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures, such as starting the second body paragraph with 'Going into the depth the percentage...'. Cohesive devices are used mechanically or inaccurately (e.g., 'To commence', 'Likewise'). Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of comparisons. Referencing is also occasionally unclear. This places the response firmly in the band 5 category for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'utilization', 'proportion', and 'significient', but these are often used with inappropriate collocations or spelling errors (e.g., 'juck food', 'consumtion', 'significient', 'droped'). There are noticeable errors in word choice, such as 'lowest utilization of junk food by the people who frequently ate'. The range of vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent reliance on basic terms and incorrect lexical forms. These errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a band 5 performance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many complex sentences are faulty and contain severe grammatical errors (e.g., 'the percentage of individuals consume juck food in United State of America', 'this proportion experience increasing trend by the people who...'). There are frequent errors in verb tense, preposition use, and subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'the ratio is droped', 'the proportion reach'). These frequent errors can cause difficulty for the reader, though the general meaning can sometimes be deciphered. This fits the band 5 descriptor.
