Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to address the prompt by selecting some data points from the chart, such as mentioning the figures for eating fast food every day (4% in 2003 and 3 in subsequent years) and referring to data for 2006 and 2013. However, the selection is somewhat random and lacks a clear, comprehensive overview of the main trends. Furthermore, the report is truncated and ends abruptly mid-sentence, which leaves key features unaddressed and prevents proper development. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to provide an introductory overview highlighting overall trends, group the data more logically, and ensure all parts of the chart are fully supported with accurate figures.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is written as a single, dense block of text without paragraphing, which makes it difficult to read and follow the flow of information. Cohesive devices are repetitive and basic, relying heavily on additive transitions like 'in 2006 and 2013' and contrastive phrases such as 'On the other hand', which are not always used accurately. The progression of ideas lacks clear logical organization, jumping back and forth between different years and frequencies without a structured plan. To improve, the student should divide the response into logical paragraphs (introduction, overview, and body paragraphs) and use a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive markers to guide the reader smoothly through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent misspellings such as 'restraurants', 'restraurants', and 'percantage'. Words are often reused within close proximity, for example, repeating the phrase 'people who visited fast food restaurants' multiple times. There are also grammatical word choice inaccuracies, such as 'how frequent people' instead of 'how frequently'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey basic data points, the spelling errors and lack of lexical variety restrict the score to a Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is quite limited, consisting mostly of repetitive clause structures connected by coordinating conjunctions or relative clauses ('the people who visited...'). There are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation issues, such as run-on sentences ('In 2006 their is incease in people who visited fast food restraurants once a week with 33% and in 2013 the people...'). Confusion between 'there' and 'their' ('their was increase', 'their is incease') also occurs regularly. The frequency of errors causes some difficulty for the reader and prevents the text from achieving a higher band.
