Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarise the main features of the bar chart regarding the frequency of fast food consumption in the USA from 2003 to 2013. However, there are significant issues with data accuracy and interpretation. For instance, the student states that 'once a week eat restaurants is higher and it is 30%', missing the precise peak figures, and struggles to systematically report the trends. Furthermore, the response is under-length at 136 words, failing the 150-word minimum requirement. These factors limit the development and completeness of the task, corresponding to a Band 5.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text is organised into short paragraphs, attempting an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. However, the logical progression is weak due to disjointed sentences and poor referencing (e.g., 'To begin with, 2003 every day eat people...'). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, leading to a mechanical and confusing flow. Paragraphing is attempted but lacks the structure required for a clear overview of the data. This fits the Band 5 descriptor where organisation is evident but overall progression is unclear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, relying on awkward phrasing such as 'continues people eat fast food restaurants' and 'the unites in mesure in persentage'. There are severe word choice and spelling errors throughout ('rastaurants', 'resutaurant', 'restautarnts'). The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for conveying very basic concepts, but frequent errors in word formation and collocation place this at a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical structures are extremely limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed sentences. There are frequent and severe errors in word order, verb forms, and basic sentence construction (e.g., '2003 every day eat people in restaurants is near 4%', 'never eat restautarnts in 2003 it was 5%'). Complex structures are not attempted successfully, and errors cause continuous strain and difficulty for the reader, aligning with a Band 4.0.
