Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response attempts to cover the main features of the chart, mentioning categories such as eating every day, never, once a week, and once or twice a month. However, there are significant omissions and misinterpretations of the data. For example, the student claims that people eating once a week in 2006 and ones eating twice a week in 2013 is the same with 33%, but the chart shows 33% for 'once or twice a month' in 2013, not 'twice a week'. Furthermore, the overview lacks precision and fails to highlight the most salient overall trends effectively. The formatting and referencing of figures contain inaccuracies, which pulls the Task Achievement score down to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and confusing sentence structures. Phrases like 'when we compare by frequency of people eating fast food every day and never is comparativley similar' lack clarity and grammatical cohesion. While some cohesive devices such as 'whereas' and 'simultaneously' are attempted, their misuse often obscures the connection between ideas. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak, resulting in a disorganized presentation of information that fits the Band 5.0 descriptor.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive, with noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text. Examples include 'daiagram', 'beteween', 'reprting', 'comparativley', 'propotion', and 'severtimes'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to data reporting, such as 'decline' and 'propotion', but frequent spelling errors ('daiagram', 'propotion') and imprecise lexical choices ('high jump', 'ones eating') restrict the lexical score to a Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple or awkwardly constructed complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, such as 'the below bar daiagram show' (subject-verb agreement), 'their are quite difference' (incorrect phrasing), and missing articles. Punctuation is also erratic, with incorrect hyphenation and capitalization issues. These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect the characteristics of a Band 5.0.
