Student answer (Band 4.5)

The bar chart frequently compares the difference between people eating fast food in restaurants in the year 2003 and 2013. As we can see according to the chart below is stating that back in 2003 there is addition of people eating fast food in restaurant then in 2013 and they are eating it every day which is very bad for their health. Then we can see that the people eating fast food several times in the week and they are literlly destrying themself they can have once a week or twice but it should not be eaten several time again we can see that in 2003 more people are taking it.

after that comes once a week which is my recommendation too but in this also 2003 are more in addition than 2013.Then comes onceor twice a month which also not that bad then having fast food daily so we in this we are likely to say 2013 is more i think becuse its new ganeration and people get to know more about health and they started meking their self well treated. Then come a few times a year this looks really boring we should or we can have once a month it can be for outing and a get together. The last is never in this 2003 is more their might be no that restaurants in the community or might people of usa not loving the fast food that much

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally, as the information from the chart is reported with significant omissions and inaccuracies. Instead of objectively summarising the main features and making comparisons between the years 2003, 2006, and 2013, the writer relies heavily on personal opinions, moral judgments, and recommendations, such as stating that eating fast food is 'very bad for their health' and that 'this looks really boring'. Furthermore, the inclusion of the year 2006 is entirely missed in the opening and body descriptions, and data points are incorrectly interpreted, such as misreading the trends across the timeline. To improve towards a higher band, the response must focus strictly on reporting factual data from the visual prompt without personal commentary, ensure all key data points and years are accurately covered, and maintain an objective academic tone.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently, which severely restricts the flow of the text. The writing lacks any clear paragraph structure, being presented as a single, dense block of text with run-on sentences. There is a complete absence of appropriate cohesive devices, and transition phrases are basic or inappropriately conversational, such as 'Then we can see', 'after that comes', and 'Then come a few times'. Additionally, referencing and pronoun use are extremely confusing throughout, making it difficult to follow which year or data category the writer is referring to at any given time. To achieve better cohesion and coherence, the writer needs to organise the response into logical paragraphs, including a clear introduction and separate body paragraphs, and use a wider range of appropriate cohesive devices to connect ideas smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, heavily straining the reader's comprehension. Throughout the text, there are frequent word-choice errors, incorrect word forms, and spelling mistakes, such as 'literlly', 'destrying', 'themself', 'ganeration', 'meking', and 'their' instead of 'there'. The student attempts to discuss trends and categories from the chart, but the lack of precise lexical items prevents clear communication. To move to a higher band, the writer must expand their vocabulary range to include more precise topic-specific terms related to data trends and statistics, while eliminating basic spelling errors and ensuring correct word formation in every instance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response displays a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting primarily of run-on sentences joined informally by conjunctions like 'and' or 'then'. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, such as 'As we can see according to the chart below is stating' and 'might people of usa not loving the fast food that much'. Punctuation is largely neglected, with missing periods and comma splices compounding the structural confusion. To improve grammatical range and accuracy, the student needs to practise constructing complete, grammatically correct simple and complex sentences, ensure consistent and appropriate use of verb tenses when describing data, and pay careful attention to punctuation.
