Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the task partially and attempts to report the main features of the chart, such as mentioning that categories like once a week had high percentages. However, the selection of data is somewhat confused and lacks clarity. For instance, stating that everyday and never 'were steadily declined' misinterprets the visual data, as everyday stayed flat at 3% or 4% and never hovered around 3.5% to 4.5%. The overview is weak, and some details are under-developed or imprecise. To reach a higher level, you should ensure that data trends are reported accurately and provide a clearer, more comprehensive overview of the main changes across the period.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is some organisation with paragraph breaks attempted, but the text lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting sentences with 'intially,' and 'In contrast ,' without proper logical links to the preceding statements. Referencing between sentences can be mechanical, and the paragraphing does not guide the reader smoothly through the data comparisons. Improving this area requires using a wider range of cohesive ties more naturally, ensuring clearer logical links between sentences and paragraphs, and structuring the body paragraphs so that trends and comparisons follow a coherent sequence.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling. For example, 'resturants', 'morever', and 'intially' contain spelling mistakes, while phrases like 'fast food of everyday' or 'percentage of people ate fast food' show awkward collocation and grammatical word formation. You attempt some less common terms, but inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader. To improve, focus on mastering basic spelling, using accurate word forms, and selecting precise vocabulary related to statistics and frequencies, such as 'proportion' instead of 'percentage' or 'daily' instead of 'of everyday'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response displays a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple or faulty complex sentences. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('the percentage of people ate... were decline'), missing articles, and incorrect prepositional usage ('at 20% in 2006 other under this'). Attempts at complex sentences often result in ungrammatical clauses or run-on structures like 'however once or twice a month had the highest percentage... and reached at the top over the period.' To move up, you need to work on reducing basic grammatical errors, improving tense consistency, and forming complex sentences accurately with correct punctuation.
