Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the task only partially, presenting a somewhat confusing interpretation of the chart. While the candidate attempts to give an overview and mention some specific data points, the selection of features is frequently inaccurate or vague, such as stating that 2006 and 2013 figured the maximum percentages without clearly clarifying the categories. Ideas are limited and under-developed, and the relationship between the different frequencies is not clearly articulated. For instance, the descriptions regarding 'once a week' and 'once or twice a month' become muddled and difficult to follow against the actual visual data. To reach a higher standard, the writer needs to select the most salient trends—such as the dominance of weekly and monthly fast-food consumption—and report them accurately with clear, well-supported comparisons rather than general, confusing assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The organisation of the response shows some structure, including an attempt at an introduction and an overview, but there is no clear overall progression. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow within paragraphs is weak. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as abrupt transitional phrases like 'In the whole chat' and confusing use of conjunctions like 'However'. Referencing is frequently unclear, making it hard to determine which years or categories the writer is referring to, as seen in sentences like 'Noteably, high ratio bar in one was at least position in other'. To improve, the writer must ensure that ideas follow a logical sequence and that referencing words clearly point to the intended data without confusing the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice, spelling, and word form that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like 'barchat', 'Noteably', 'restautants', 'higer', 'intreseted', and 'miner', as well as awkward phrasing such as 'frequency of the people to consume' and 'most precentage'. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccurate collocations and incorrect word forms restrict precision. To progress, the student needs to expand their range of vocabulary, pay closer attention to standard spellings, and use descriptive terms correctly in the context of data reporting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences and attempts at complex structures that are frequently faulty. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including awkward clause structures such as 'illustrates that what is the frequency of the people to consume', incorrect prepositions like 'in each years' and 'on daily basis', and issues with comparison structures. These errors can cause some difficulty for the reader and obscure the intended meaning. To achieve a higher score, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of accurate complex sentence forms, ensure proper subject-verb agreement, and exercise greater control over articles and prepositions.
