Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response identifies the topic and attempts an overview, noting a shift from daily to monthly fast-food eating. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the chart shows daily eating at about 3–4% throughout, rather than a meaningful reduction, while monthly eating rises to 33% in 2013. Several figures are misreported, including 33% for weekly eating in 2003 (the chart shows about 31%), 7% for never (about 4–5%), and “436 percent” for monthly eating in 2013. The account also omits important comparisons across all three years. The response is 140 words, below the required 150; the 15 words copied from the prompt are excluded from the count. Select the main trends accurately and support them with correctly reported figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response into an opening overview and year-by-year paragraphs, and time markers such as “In 2003,” “Meanwhile in 2006,” and “In 2013” help signal sequence. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview is unclear and the comparisons are not consistently connected. Phrases such as “So, In 2003 only people increase food in a week” do not clearly explain the relationship between the data, while the 2013 sentence combines a trend and a figure without a clear link. Paragraphing is present, but ideas within paragraphs are repetitive and sometimes incomplete. Grouping the data by frequency (for example, weekly versus monthly eating) and using clear comparison links would make the organisation more coherent.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-related vocabulary, including “frequently,” “daily routine,” “weekly,” and “monthly,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, vocabulary is often repetitive or inaccurately combined: “people are like to fast edaily life” and “people are mostly like food in week” do not express the intended chart information naturally. There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “illusration,” “mmonth,” and “edaily,” and the phrase “436 percent” makes the reported value unclear. Use precise chart language such as “the proportion of people,” “ate fast food,” “once a week,” and “once or twice a month.” More accurate collocations and spelling would make the comparisons easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts simple statements and some longer sentences, but control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent. For example, “people are reduce food” uses an incorrect verb form, and “people are like to eat” repeatedly applies an unsuitable structure. Articles and sentence boundaries are also problematic: “It is quite evident of chart show” is not a complete, well-formed construction, and several sentences run together without spaces after full stops. Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, as in “So, In 2003” and “Meanwhile In 2006.” These errors often make the intended comparisons hard to interpret. Practise reliable patterns such as “the percentage fell to…” and “the largest group ate…” before attempting longer sentences, and check verb tense, articles, and punctuation.
