Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a minimal attempt to describe the chart, but it does not report the main patterns or provide any accurate comparisons from the data. The overview says that some people ate daily and others never ate fast food, but gives no figures or indication of how these groups changed. It also incorrectly says the chart compares “three different categories”; it actually shows six frequency categories across three years. The response ends with “the ma”, so the description is incomplete. The required minimum of 150 words is not met: the response contains 58 words. To improve, complete the report and select key features, such as the weekly category being highest in 2003 and 2006, while monthly eating was highest in 2013.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening sentence followed by a paragraph beginning “Overall”. However, the ideas do not develop into a clear description: the overview is vague, and there is no paragraph reporting comparisons or supporting details. The final fragment, “the ma”, leaves the text unfinished and interrupts progression. The linking word “while” in the opening sentence does not clearly connect the time period to the years listed. Use a simple structure with an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and a body paragraph comparing the figures. Clear links such as “In 2003”, “By 2013” and “whereas” would help the reader follow the comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small range of relevant vocabulary, including “bar chart”, “Overall”, “daily” and “never”, so the topic is recognisable. However, several word choices and forms are inaccurate or unclear, such as “the frequently people”, “cetagories”, “time interval of year” and “never eaten”. These errors make the description less precise, and there is little vocabulary for comparing data, such as rises, falls, peaks or proportions. Aim to use accurate chart language and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe “the percentage of people who ate fast food” and say that a category “accounted for” a particular share or “was the most common frequency”.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both a longer opening sentence and a separate overview, but grammatical control is uneven. In “The provided bar chart depicts the frequently people in USA in fast food in the time period of three years, while 2003, 2006 and 2013”, the sentence structure and the use of “while” do not form a clear grammatical relationship. “Some peope were eating daily but there were some persons who never eaten in this time” also has an incomplete verb construction after “who”. The overview begins with a lowercase “some”, and the final fragment is unfinished. Practise building clear, complete sentences with accurate past-tense forms, articles and clauses, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
