Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response identifies several relevant categories and reports some figures accurately, including daily eating at 4% in 2003 and 3% in both later years, and several-times-a-week eating at 17%, 20% and 16%. However, the overview contains important inaccuracies: this latter frequency did not gradually increase, and once-a-week eating did not “highly boost”; it fell from 31% to 28%. The response also says daily eating “significantly decreased” despite only a small change, and claims that eating a few times a year dropped, although it rose from about 13% to 15% and then stayed level. Once or twice a month, a major category that peaked at 33% in 2013, is omitted. More accurate selection and comparison of the main trends would make the summary more complete and reliable.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview, two detail paragraphs and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear: the overview lists trends that are then contradicted or not supported in the details, and the conclusion repeats claims rather than synthesising the chart. Linking words such as “So,” “However,” and “Therefore” are frequent and sometimes do not show a logical relationship between the statements. For example, “Therefore” introduces the claim about people never eating fast food, but the connection is unclear. Grouping related categories and comparing the three years within each group would create a clearer sequence and reduce repetitive transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
Vocabulary is sufficient to identify the chart’s subject and categories, with phrases such as “several times a week,” “a few times a year” and “percentage.” However, the range is basic and repetitive, and several word choices or collocations make the meaning awkward: “frequently citizen,” “eating at pizza in every day,” and “highly boost.” The response also uses “normaly” where a more precise description is needed, and spelling errors such as “resturants,” “stabalise” and “declind” reduce accuracy. Use standard chart language such as “the proportion of people,” “rose,” “fell,” and “remained stable,” while choosing verbs that match the size and direction of the changes shown.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, and attempts to connect ideas with longer sentences, but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Several sentences lack a complete verb structure, for example, “First of all, eating fast food every day 4% in 2003” and “And in 2006 the percentage 3%.” Articles, possessives and sentence construction are also problematic in “the individuals frequency” and “the citizens eating at fast food in once a week.” Punctuation is inconsistent, including missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise complete comparison sentences, such as “The proportion eating fast food daily was 4% in 2003, before falling to 3% in 2006,” and check sentence boundaries and verb forms.
