Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover all six frequency categories for each year and include several relevant figures, so the reader can identify the broad subject of the chart. However, the response mainly lists values rather than selecting and summarising the most important features. The overview is unclear, and the final comparison is inaccurate: the weekly peak was about 33% in 2006, while the monthly category reached about 33% in 2013, not 32% as stated. Some figures are also imprecise, such as reporting 2003 never as 5% rather than about 4.5%. A clearer overview should highlight that weekly eating was most common in 2003 and 2006, whereas monthly eating led in 2013, with daily and never responses remaining low.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response moves through 2003, 2006 and 2013, and the final sentence attempts a comparison. However, the year-by-year lists create little overall progression, and the same sentence pattern is repeated for nearly every category. Connectors such as “overall” and “now” do not clearly show how the information relates, and the opening description of the chart is separated from the main reporting without a clear paragraph structure. Grouping the data by meaningful trends—for example, the most common frequencies and the consistently low extremes—would make comparisons easier to follow. Use a concise overview before the details, and make each paragraph serve a distinct purpose.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some relevant chart vocabulary, including “percentage,” “rate,” “rise up” and “contrast,” and the category labels are generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated or used unnaturally, such as “ratio go to” and “is always 0 to.” These expressions make the data harder to interpret because the figures are proportions, not changes from zero. There are also word-form and spelling problems, including “darl black” and “tow time.” Aim for precise reporting verbs and collocations, such as “accounted for,” “stood at” and “increased,” and avoid repeating the same wording for every figure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to communicate comparisons across three years, but sentence structures are mostly repetitive and frequently contain errors that make relationships between figures unclear. For example, “Then given bar chart illustrate” lacks a clear grammatical subject and correct verb agreement, while “2003 show … every day rate go 0 to 4%” has problems with tense, articles and sentence construction. The repeated pattern “ratio go to” also does not form a clear comparison. Use complete sentences with a consistent past-tense reporting verb, such as “In 2003, 31% ate at a fast-food restaurant once a week.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation, then combine related figures using simple comparative clauses.
