Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the chart’s general subject and attempts to comment on change, but it does not adequately summarise the main features. The claim that fast-food intake “decreased gradually” is not supported across the categories: weekly eating falls from 31% to 28%, while monthly eating rises from 30% to 33%, and several-times-a-week eating fluctuates. The suggested explanation that people “focused more healthy food intake” is not shown by the chart. No key figures or clear comparisons are reported, and the response is substantially below the required 150 words, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, give a concise overview of the main pattern, then compare the most important categories using accurate figures from the chart.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: it introduces the chart, refers to a comparison, and ends with a concluding interpretation. However, the ideas do not develop in a clear sequence, and the reader is not guided through the chart’s categories or years. Linking words such as “However” and “Likewise” are used, but the relationships they signal are unclear; for example, “Likewise” does not introduce a specific supporting trend. The response is also presented as one continuous block. A clearer structure would separate an introduction, an overview of the main trends, and a short paragraph comparing selected figures. Use linking expressions only when the connection between ideas is explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The response uses some relevant vocabulary, including “frequency,” “consumed,” “comparison,” and “gradually,” showing an attempt to describe the chart rather than relying entirely on basic wording. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and make the meaning less clear: “chat” appears to be intended as “chart,” “consumpution” is misspelled, and “contrasting difference” is an awkward combination. “Consumption on different timelines” is also imprecise for eating-frequency categories. The phrase “focused more healthy food intake” does not express the intended idea naturally. Aim for precise chart language and check spelling and collocations; terms such as “proportion,” “frequency,” “rose,” and “fell” would help describe the data accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes a few basic sentence forms and attempts a conditional construction in “if we compare daily and never consumption,” but the range is limited and the longer sentences are not consistently controlled. For example, “This chart depicts consumption on different timelines during these years” is grammatically possible but vague, while “This coparison illustrates how people of US focused…” has an unclear sentence structure and missing grammatical elements. There are also punctuation and spacing problems: full stops are followed immediately by the next sentence, and there is no space after “However,”. Use complete, clearly structured sentences, with accurate articles and prepositions, and check punctuation. Shorter sentences comparing one or two figures would help you maintain control while adding detail.
