Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify several relevant categories and include some figures, such as daily eating falling from 4% to 3% and monthly eating rising from 30% to 33%. However, the response only partially summarises the chart: it gives little coverage of 2006 and does not clearly identify the main pattern that weekly eating was the most common frequency in 2003 and 2006, while monthly eating was highest in 2013. Some figures are inaccurate: weekly eating was about 31%, 33% and 28%, not 32% and 27%; several times a week fell from 17% to 16%, but the comparison is vague. The conclusion that overall frequency fell dramatically is not supported by the mixed changes. The response is 147 words, three short of the required minimum; the 13 words copied from the prompt were not counted.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic structure, with an opening, a paragraph reporting data and a concluding statement, and the reader can follow the broad topic. However, the information does not progress clearly from an overview to well-organised comparisons. The long middle section moves rapidly between categories, and the repeated use of “while” and “although” does not always show the intended relationship between the figures. For example, the sentence beginning “It can be seen” combines daily, several-times-weekly and weekly trends without clear separation. The conclusion largely repeats the earlier claims rather than summarising the chart’s main contrasts. Use distinct paragraphs for an overview and grouped comparisons, and connect each comparison with precise linking language.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “frequency,” “fell,” “grew” and “moderate change,” so the topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “consumption of fast food restaurant,” “once a week meal in restaurant” and “grew rapidly as compare to 2003” are not natural ways to describe the chart. “Dramatically” also overstates small changes, such as the movement from 31% to 28%. There are spelling and form errors, including “everday” and “Moreever.” Aim for precise chart language such as “the proportion who ate out” and “increased slightly,” and check spelling and collocations before finishing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts longer sentences and some subordinate clauses, but complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make parts difficult to read. Examples include “The chart below illustrate,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “between 2003 to 2013,” where the time expression is not formed correctly. In “it began from 30 and remain on 33 percent,” the verb forms and tense are inconsistent. The sentence beginning “It can be seen” also runs several ideas together, with missing punctuation and unclear clause boundaries. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and agreement, and divide comparisons into shorter sentences before attempting more complex structures.
