Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both views and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument for new rail lines focuses on trade and cost-effectiveness, but the explanation is brief. Similarly, the counter-argument regarding existing infrastructure is relevant but lacks depth. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, merely restating the main point without synthesising the arguments effectively. To reach a higher band, you should aim to provide more specific examples or elaborate further on the implications of each perspective to ensure the ideas are fully extended rather than just stated.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Conversely', and 'Thus' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise (e.g., 'the rest deem to spend it'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different viewpoints. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices and ensure that the relationship between sentences is always clear and natural, rather than relying on a few standard connectors.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'preponderant', 'allocate', and 'congestion'. There are some instances of awkward phrasing or word choice, such as 'a few proportion of the society' (should be 'a small proportion') and 'under budget' (should be 'on a budget'). While these errors do not impede communication, they highlight a need for more precise collocation and idiomatic usage. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary and ensure that your word choices are consistently natural and accurate in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('trade relations... becomes', 'It also help people') and article usage errors ('the construction of railway lines'). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are unnecessary spaces before commas. While you attempt complex sentences, the frequency of errors is noticeable. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and article consistency. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you move into the higher band range.
