Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you have identified both sides of the argument, the essay is incomplete; it lacks a concluding paragraph and the opinion section is cut off mid-sentence. The ideas presented are somewhat repetitive and lack specific, concrete examples to support the claims. To improve, you must ensure you fully develop your arguments with supporting evidence and provide a clear, well-structured conclusion that summarises your position. The failure to complete the task prevents a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'To explain', 'As a result', 'Moreover'). There are also issues with referencing and logical flow; for instance, the transition between the introduction and the body paragraphs is abrupt. The lack of a conclusion makes the overall progression feel unfinished. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main prompt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'top choice' and 'a lot of'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'maximise trains' and 'mood of traveling' (likely meant 'mode'). While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is limited, and there is little evidence of less common or idiomatic language. Expanding your vocabulary to include more academic collocations would significantly enhance your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'vast sum of money' (should be 'vast sums'), 'valid argument exist' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'public who is working professional' (awkward phrasing). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the errors do not completely obscure the meaning, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex grammatical forms. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
