Student answer (Band 6.0)

In modern times, the issue of transport has become highly controversial. There are those who say that people think it is important to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities. However, others people believe that the money should be spent on improving existing public transport.

Generally speaking, there are two main reasons why people believe that people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines. Perhaps the main reason why people are in favor of this idea is because, people can go their destination easily and fast. For example, when the government constructing new railway lines, then individuals can go faster than before. Because of which people will not have any problems. Moreover, government can earn money easily and countries financial system will improve.

Despite these arguments, there is also a case for the idea that the money should be spent on improving existing public transport. The main reason why people think this is a good idea is that every people can go easily and faster their destination. Moreover, every people such as rich and poor people can take this advantages. I think the government should be spent on improving public transport such as buses, cars, and bikes. Because of this people can reduce stress and disappointed.

In conclusion, it must be said that transport has become a complex issue with no easy solutions. Having considered both sides of the issue, I would argue, both are important for people and the government, but I think improving exciting public transport is more earning money for government. Furthermore, every people can effort this ticket. People can transport uses easily for their daily life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, meeting the basic requirements of the prompt. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument for high-speed trains is underdeveloped, relying on vague statements like 'people will not have any problems'. Similarly, the discussion on improving existing transport lacks specific examples or depth. The position is clear, but the supporting points are somewhat superficial and lack the necessary extension required for a higher band. To improve, focus on providing concrete examples and explaining the 'why' and 'how' behind your arguments more thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive. Phrases like 'The main reason why' and 'Moreover' are used frequently, which makes the flow feel somewhat stilted. Additionally, there are issues with referencing; for example, 'every people' is used incorrectly as a subject, and the connection between sentences is sometimes weak. While there is an overall logical progression, the lack of variety in linking words and occasional awkward transitions limit the coherence of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There is significant repetition of basic words such as 'people', 'money', and 'spend'. Some word choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as 'disappointed' used as a noun instead of 'disappointment', and 'exciting' used when you likely meant 'existing'. To improve, you should aim to use more precise synonyms and collocations, such as 'infrastructure investment' instead of 'spend money' or 'commuters' instead of 'people'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'every people can go'), incorrect verb forms (e.g., 'government should be spent'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'countries financial system'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will significantly improve your score.
