Student answer (Band 6.5)
In recent years , large amount of money spend on the constructing railway lines for fast trains in cities . Some people think that it is very necessary and positive development while other argue that mostly money should be spent on public transport . I discuss both views and then i give my opinion .
On the one hand , some citizens think that it is very important to spend large amount of money on railway lines for fast trains because fast trains take less time and it has safe journey . For instance , if a person have a plan to go Islamabad from the Lahore with family in a bus it takes 4 to 5 hours and it is not safe . However , if they choose fast trains it take along maximum 1.5 to 2 hours that`s why they think that mostly income spend on fast trains and railway lines .
On the other hand , others residents argue that large amounts of sales were spent on public transport as compare to constructing railway lines because they asked that public transport is important then railway . For example, mostly individuals uses public transport as compare to railways because there mostly work has done in own cities so they do not need any railway for going to another city .
In conclusion, both people have their own different opinions . From my perspective i think we spend money on both projects like railway lines and public transport so we should try a balanced approach because this is better .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing both views and providing a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument for fast trains relies on a single personal example, and the argument for public transport is somewhat vague, using phrases like 'mostly work has done in own cities' which lacks clarity. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the broader societal or economic implications of these transport investments rather than focusing solely on personal travel preferences. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments need more depth and academic rigor to fully satisfy the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to signal shifts in the argument. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'mostly income spend on fast trains', where the connection to the previous point is weak. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows from the one before it to create a smoother progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on repetitive phrasing, such as 'large amount of money' and 'fast trains'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'mostly income spend' and 'large amounts of sales were spent'. To improve your score, try to incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to urban planning and infrastructure, and work on using words in their correct grammatical context. Expanding your range of synonyms and collocations will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'large amount of money spend', 'mostly individuals uses'), missing articles, and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'it take along maximum 1.5 to 2 hours'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors demonstrate a lack of control over complex structures. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly verb tenses and pluralization, before attempting more complex grammatical forms. Proofreading for small errors like missing 's' or incorrect prepositions will significantly improve your accuracy.
