Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, ending abruptly at 211 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the conclusion is incomplete and the arguments are underdeveloped. While you identify both viewpoints and state your opinion, the lack of length prevents a full exploration of the topic. To improve, ensure you provide a complete, well-structured essay that fully addresses all parts of the prompt, including a clear introduction, two distinct body paragraphs with supporting evidence, and a finished conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay uses basic cohesive devices like 'On the other hand' and 'For instance,' but the logical flow is disrupted by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the final paragraph is cut off mid-sentence, which hinders the overall progression of ideas. Referencing is sometimes unclear, such as the transition between the second and third paragraphs. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting points that lead naturally to the next section.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing or incorrect word choices, such as 'government have heavily invest money' instead of 'governments have invested heavily' and 'emission' used incorrectly in the context of train networks. You rely on simple, repetitive structures. To improve, aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and ensure you use words in their correct grammatical form.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('government have'), tense inconsistencies, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple or contain errors when attempting complexity. For example, 'the new building high speed railways lines is essential' is grammatically incorrect. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles, before attempting more complex, compound-complex sentence structures.
