Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a number of countries, some people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities, others believe that money should be spent on improving existing public transport. I agree with both views because this is extremely fast age. People have to time to wait for hours in public transports and they prefer railways because they booked it online and reached there on time and have the exact time of departure and arrival. But people who belongs to low maintenance families have not enough budget to travel railways so they prefer public transport for their travelling.

First railway stations are convenient source of travel from one city to another. People have online access to book their tickets in advance so that they don’t face any inconvenience if they are late. And railway stations often provide with basic necessities related to tea or food when it is a long travel distance. People come on the exact time of departure and feel comfortable in travelling. There is Ac facility available in the sitting areas of railways and people who are tired can stay here after their arrival. Also people have a small pray room in the railways so they can freely worship.

On the other hand, public transport is also a good source of travel. There is huge demand of public transportation in my country. People use it for their daily travel convenience. It is quite cheaper and affordable for all people. This kind of transportation helps people to fulfil their tasks in time.

In my views, both have their own benefits and both are easy and accessible according to one’s needs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument, but the development is somewhat superficial. While you mention the benefits of high-speed rail and public transport, the ideas are not fully extended. For instance, the discussion on 'low maintenance families' is unclear and lacks a strong link to the economic argument of infrastructure investment. Your position is stated in the introduction, but it remains somewhat vague throughout the body paragraphs. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a clear central idea that directly supports your thesis, providing more detailed reasoning and specific examples rather than listing features like 'tea or food' or 'pray rooms'.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and sometimes mechanical. Phrases like 'First' and 'On the other hand' are used to signal shifts, but the internal flow within paragraphs is often disjointed. Some sentences feel like a list of features rather than a cohesive argument. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one, creating a smoother progression of ideas throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'good source', 'small', and 'easy'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'low maintenance families' and 'Ac facility available'. To improve, try to incorporate more academic vocabulary related to transport and economics, such as 'infrastructure investment', 'socio-economic accessibility', or 'urban connectivity'. Focusing on precise word choice will help you express your ideas more effectively and professionally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people who belongs to', 'have not enough budget', and 'provide with basic necessities'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing after commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading. Focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles and prepositions to improve the accuracy of your writing.
