Student answer (Band 5.0)

In a number of countries, some people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities. Others believe the money should be spent on improving existing public transport. I agree with the both statements. Both of the views are described below:

some people think it is necessary to spend large sums of money on constructing new railway lines for very fast trains between cities its a good idea if there are constructed new and fast railway line it becomes very easy to travel from one city to the other city.It can also secure our time and we can easily travel.

The project is quite necessary if it would developed we can easilt travel from the other city using railway instead of using car and busses, using car and busses it can take a long time and long traveling is not safe also,on the other hand railway lines are very fast and it is cost-efficient also.

Others believe the money should be spent on improving existing public transport. It is also quite neccessary and it is need of every person if we travel to different places we use public transport but in our country our public transport condition is not so good we faces many difficulties and problem when we are traveling in a public transport, sometimes it is not traveling on time sometime it is completely full and we can not find us a space to sit.Peoples believes the money should be spent on improving existing public transport so we could not faces such a problems if we improve public transport so we should travel more easily.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both views and provides an opinion, though the development of ideas is limited. The arguments for high-speed rail are repetitive, focusing primarily on 'saving time' and 'traveling easily' without exploring broader economic or environmental impacts. Similarly, the discussion on public transport is anecdotal and lacks depth. While the position is clear, the supporting points are underdeveloped and rely on simplistic reasoning. To improve, you should aim to provide more specific, well-reasoned arguments for each side, such as discussing the long-term economic benefits of high-speed rail versus the immediate social necessity of upgrading local bus or train networks.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. There is a lack of cohesive devices to link ideas; for example, the transition between the two viewpoints is abrupt. The use of referencing is often unclear, and the flow of ideas is frequently interrupted by repetitive phrasing. While there is a basic logical progression, the lack of effective linking words (such as 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'in contrast') makes the text feel disjointed. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'good idea', 'necessary', and 'travel'. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'secure our time' (instead of 'save time') and 'if it would developed' (grammatically incorrect). The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas, and there is a lack of topic-specific terminology related to infrastructure or urban planning. To reach a higher band, you should focus on learning collocations and more precise academic vocabulary, such as 'infrastructure investment', 'commuter efficiency', or 'urban connectivity'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('Peoples believes'), tense usage ('if it would developed'), and sentence structure (run-on sentences and comma splices). The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There is a lack of complex sentence forms, and punctuation is often misused or absent. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and practicing the use of complex structures like relative clauses or conditional sentences.
